Ubuntu Talking Clock

I always wanted to have a clock that will remind me of the time of the day every time I am in front of my computer. I wanted the reminder to be periodic.

Today, I came across the .deb package of the clock here. Downloading the package takes no time at all even with my relatively slow internet connection. Before installing, I tried reading additional information as to how the proper installation should proceed and I found out that it needs the vorbis-tools package. So I proceeded to check if it was already installed using the command

sudo apt-get vorbis-tools

at the terminal.

My box installed nothing because as it turned out, it already has the said package installed in it.

So, I proceeded to just go to the downloaded .deb file and double click the same. After several seconds of grinding, my box reported that the package is successfully installed.

Then , I tried to find in the Ubuntu menu where the entry corresponding to the software I just installed and found nothing. I really can’ find it so I opened a terminal and type the following at the prompt:

talking-clock

and my box sounded the time in a synthesized voice. It works, but how I am supposed to make my box announce the time periodically?

Fortunately for me, I got gnome-schedule installed in my Ubuntu box. The image below will certainly speak for itself.

Now, I already have the speaking clock running in the background and giving me constant reminder as frequent as the schedule shown in the image above.

It sounds a little creepy but it is working inside my Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) laptop.

MSU-GSC Faculty Union Young Workers in ATEIM Confab

Ramon Eduque and Maria Luisa Non of Science Department of College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, MSU-General Santos attended the three-day (March 10-12, 2010) Training-Workshop on Context-Based Module and Workbook Writing sponsored by the Association of Teacher Education Institutions in Mindanao (ATEIM) in Jade Resto Bar, Matina, Aplaya, Davao City.

Ramon and Ma. Luisa are two of the young workers of the Mindanao State University-General Santos Faculty Union. The duo have tentative  plans of echoing what they learned to fellow young workers of the union.

MSU Faculty Attended ATEIM Module Making Workshop

Eight faculty members of MSU-General Santos attended the three-day (March 10-12, 2010) Training-Workshop on Context-Based Module and Workbook Writing sponsored by the Association of Teacher Education Institutions in Mindanao (ATEIM) in Jade Resto Bar, Matina, Aplaya, Davao City. The said faculty members primarily came from three colleges from MSU-General Santos namely:

The training-workshop, in general,  aims to re-tool the capability of Teacher Education Institutions (TEI) in course module and workbook writing.
